Sales Director for Thailand’s underdeveloped food services industry Thailand’s very underdeveloped food services industry, required Salzer Consulting to search beyond the local talent pool for our French-Australian client. The challenge was to identify a Sales Director who, not only understood the local industry, but who could also independently drive the national sales pipeline. A further challenge was Thailand’s lack of a “CEO culture” which was reflected throughout the corporate hierarchy. This resulted in a difficulty in finding qualified people who could independently show initiative or take responsibility. Salzer Consulting searched for a top local who was trained in Western management. Since there were no Western food service competitors, the search was extended to industries with a similar sales and client management model, or where people where selling services to the same clients. Additional research identified the top Thai performers who had graduated from Asian and Western MBA programs. The final candidate not only satisfied the client’s immediate needs but subsequently went on to localise an expatriate Managing Director position in Asia.
