Engineering team for Philippines petrochemical start-up A team of highly-qualified engineering executives was required to oversee the construction, commissioning and implementation of operations of a USD 1bn petrochemical plant in an isolated area of the Philippines. Candidates would need, amongst other qualities, world’s best practice experience in the safe and efficient production of polypropylene and polyethylene in Asia. The imperative for this team was to balance the conflicting forces of commercial imperatives and safety in a pressured environment. The right candidates were found and the facility was started on time and on budget, while maintaining world class efficiency and safety. The company subsequently wanted to introduce a localisation policy and Salzer Consulting was engaged to source Filipino engineers who could be trained over a period of 2 to 3 years, to take over the senior roles at the plant, once the expats had moved on. Salzer Consulting sourced most of the short listed Filipino candidates from Saudi Arabia and Singapore, and completed the localization as planned.
